Friday's Five ✋ #295
Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from France! After a week of farmers markets, medieval castles and villages, we’re en route to the coast for the weekend to see Arcachon, the dunes, and Cap Ferret before spending some time back in Bordeaux.
What I’m reading 📖
With ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’ Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote a fantastic book that became one of my favorite tv series this year. On this vacation, I read another of her bestsellers ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’ and it did not disappoint. It’s the story of a young woman that rises to fame in 1950s Hollywood and on her way, gets married to seven different husbands. Filled with twists and turns, secrets, and a revelation towards the end that involves the young reporter tasked with writing her biography. It’s a perfect summer read. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
The world of online betting has been mostly unknown to me even though tv advertisement is flooded by it. With this Spotify Original Podcast (in German), I started to understand a bit more what the thrills, dangers, and twisted realities are involved in this multi-billion Euro industry.
What I’m watching 📺
Poker Face is a Columbo-esque comedic non-detective show created by Rian Johnson (Knives Out and Glass Onion) starring Natasha Lyonne.
Casino worker and seasoned gambler Charlie (Natasha Lyonne) has an unusual gift – she is instantly able to tell if someone is lying. After her friend is found dead, and something seems off, she puts that ability to use, and tries to figure out what happened. Eventually, she ends up on the road, solving suspicious cases along the way.
I really enjoyed this show and the episodes in the casino, the brisket-Barbecue joint, and the truck stop most. Great style, great acting, tons of cameos, and compelling cases. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“I have discovered that to determine whether my actions stem from "doing" or "being," I only need to look at the emotion behind my everyday decisions. Is it fear, or is it passion? If everything I do each day is driven by passion and a zest for living, then I'm "being," but if my actions are a result of fear, then I'm in "doing" mode.” – Anita Moorjani
What else?! 💯
Companies have board meetings. What would a personal board meeting look like? Matt Gray tried this agenda.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
