Friday's Five ✋ #297
Happy Friday! ☀️
After a work week spent in Vienna and Munich I am on my way to Brussels to spend the weekend with my family for a birthday gathering with my relatives who live in the US and who I don’t get to see often.
What I’m reading 📖
Continuing the ‘summer reads’ theme of the past weeks, I read ‘Pineapple Street’ on vacation. A story about family and privilege set in Brooklyn, NY. This smart and witty debut novel by Jenny Jackson is filled with one-liners and snobby New Yorkisms it felt like reading a spin off of White Lotus sans the villain and limited to one family. I enjoyed it. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
No idea how I’ve missed this podcast that’s been in the top charts for a while. The SmartLess Podcast is hosted by Hollywood heavy-hitters and best friends Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. Started during the pandemic, the twist of these high energy and humor-filled conversations is that for every episode, one of the hosts invites a surprise guest to the show. The result is over 100 episodes with the who-is-who in entertainment. I’ve worked my way through some of the episodes with Allison Janney, Rob Lowe, John Krasinski, Steven Spielberg, Bradley Cooper, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Steve Carrell, and many more.
What I’m watching 📺
The historical accuracy of the story is being heavily debated on the internet and that aside, I really enjoyed ‘Flamin Hot’. Directed by Eva Longoria, this biographical comedy-drama portrays the story of Richard Montañez, a janitor at a Cheetos factory follows the call of the CEO to “think like a CEO” and goes on to work tirelessly to find the perfect spicy flavour for Cheetos to cater to the Hispanic community. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“Artists must be allowed to go through bad periods! They must be allowed to do bad work! They must be allowed to get in a mess! They must be allowed to have dud experiments! They must also be allowed to have periods where they repeat themselves in a rather aimless, fruitless way before they can pick up and go on.”

What else?! 💯
And to wrap up this week, here is a dreamy, summery, electronic new tune by Kid Francescoli featuring Julietta.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
