Friday's Five ✋ #298
Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from a work week spent in Berlin where I spent most time with existing clients and some quality time with my best friend and his family, sitting on the floor, eating pizza, and making jokes.
What I’m reading 📖
The fifth and last book I read on vacation and that I would file as ‘summer read’ was another novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. ‘Malibu Rising’ is set in the 80ies Malibu and follows the four children of the world’s most popular singer and how they grow up in Malibu with an absent and the estranged father. The main plot of the book occurs over the course of 24 hours leading up to the traditional summer party hosted by the kids and the subplot weaves their lives and struggles at a young age. I found it highly entertaining, making up vivid images in my mind of Malibu during that time. More about the book in this review.
What I’m listening to 🎧
It’s been a while since I listened to an episode of ‘How I Built This’ and when I saw that Guy Raz meets Tina Roth-Eisenberg, better know on the internet as Swissmiss and founder of ‘Creative Mornings’, regular community meetings for creative people, I tuned in. I remember fondly interviewing Tina for the Role Models Podcast and it was nice to hear her again in this recent episode. And her infectious laugh!
What I’m watching 📺
My favorite show of last year is back with season 2 and they didn’t let us wait long. Season 2 of The Bear picks up where it left off and we’re reunited with the restaurant crew that is now trying to turn a legendary Chicago sandwich shop into a fine dining restaurant. I love this show so much. It’s so raw and real and season 2 lets us witness so many moments of tenderness and vulnerability and it makes more room for everyone in the stellar cast (which introduces some big-name actor cameos). Yes, it still has its moments of frenzy that make you want to scream but mostly it’s about friendship and family, determination and perseverance. Watch the trailer.
