Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Vienna where I just arrived yesterday after a tour across Germany. I started in Berlin, spent a day with a new client in Hamburg followed by a day with a long-standing client in the wine region of the Pfalz before driving to Vienna for a special weekend with family and friends.
What I’m reading 📖
In the age of authenticity, I’ve been fascinated about the shift in the type of content shared on professional social network LinkedIn. From personal branding, to opinions, (performative?) vulnerability posts, and (genuine?) inspirational business stories, I am still trying to understand and make sense of this shift. A recent Business Insider article tried too, but I don’t feel I’ve gotten all the answers yet. Read more.
What I’m listening to 🎧
This is my favorite episode of Matze’s podcast so far this year. I remember that we read an article when we spent a weekend together a few weeks ago about a member of the German Federal Parliament called Maja Wallstein from his home region in the Eastern part of Germany. Maja got elected in 2021 and every year, she spends a few weeks walking from town to town to connect with her constituents on a personal level. This is one of the best interviews I’ve heard with a politician and I hope you will listen to it (provided you know German).
What I’m watching 📺
Wes Anderson adapted Roald Dahl's beloved story about a rich man who sets out to master an extraordinary skill to cheat at gambling and the (longish) short movie already made it onto Netflix shortly after premiering at the Venice Film Festival. I haven’t watched it yet and heard it’s worth it. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“If art is how we decorate space then music is how we decorate time.” –
found somewhere on the internet.
What else?! 💯
My friend and former colleague Louisa left ForChiefs a few months ago to co-found her own company called Equaly, a service for couples to divide home and child care amongst each other. In the past few months, Louisa and her team worked with 1000 couples to develop their product–a mix of web app, live sessions, and a community of couples. Louisa would like to share a special deal for the public launch of Equaly with Friday’s Five subscribers. If you’re a couple interested in sharing care work equally, sign up on October 2nd for a special offer here.*
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
David
