Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Vienna after another week working from home in sessions with coachees. I took a day off on Wednesday to spend it with my wife, explored the city on a lovely day, and had a great meal at Café Ansari, a new favorite for me.
What I’m reading 📖
The Internet. We all use it, got used to it, and take it for granted. We experience the good it creates and we see and witness the bad. We all know it needs to evolve. The MIT Technology Review took a closer look and offers a few perspectives on how to fix the internet. I felt a little disappointed once I got to their proposals given the lofty headline, but it was a good read all the while. Read more.
What I’m listening to 🎧
This week I listened to two episodes of the Diary of a CEO two two founder-CEOs of iconic companies. Daniel Ek of Spotify and Brian Chesky of Airbnb. Both conversations are interesting in that they both founded their respective companies about 15 years ago and are both still leading them. Having founded their company at a young age, it’s fascinating to hear them speak about the journey, what they learned from it, and how they reflect on it in their late thirties and fourties. There is so much more clarity about who they are, what matters to them, and what they learned from their endeavours.
What I’m watching 📺
Fynn Kliemann’s ‘Road to Bruno’ made me laugh, cheer, and appreciate playfulness like no other documentary has in a while. Fynn and his friend Brian set out on a road trip in a special car to make their way from Northern Germany to Italy to find and meet Bruno who built Europe’s most unique playground. Along the way, they stop to find answers to their question what kind of ingredients are needed to make a great playground. And like every good documentary, there are some curve balls and setbacks and it’s such a joy to witness how playful and positive these two approach this trip. Highly recommended. Find the 6-part series for free on YouTube.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“We led with our conviction rather than rational, because rational said it was impossible.” — Daniel Ek
What else?! 💯
In March of this year I attended the very last and very special show of the band Pale who I tour managed in the early 2000s. I wrote here at the time that it was special for a number of reasons: the final show after 25 years of being a band and a night to remember and celebrate their guitar player Christian who sadly passed away in 2021. I still get goose bumps when thinking of the show and Pale announced a pre-sales of the live album ‘Bigger Than Live’ as a triple vinyl edition. The last day to pre-order ist today. Get it here.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
