Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from the family nest in Vienna, two weeks after our daughter was born. It’s a magical time and I cherish the time at home: long and slow days, countless hours in the kitchen trying out new recipes and experiments (I baked my first bread ever!), all while my wife and our daughter sit there while we’re getting to know each other.
What I’m reading 📖
My friend Matze turned 44 this week and compiled a list of 44 insights and advices (to himself and others). I can see many of those insights in knowing Matze and they are a great reminder. Hope you find value in them just as much as I did.
What I’m listening to 🎧
It’s November which means a new playlist for the month that just closed. It includes 20 songs and lasts one hour and thirteen minutes. New music by my friend Ian Hooper, all-time favorite Bear’s Den, and some new discoveries. Spin it!
What I’m watching 📺
The second week home with the baby was and remains the main event and I can’t stop looking at her. At night, when mom and baby retire to bed I mindlessly opened Netflix and hit play on the first series that was recommended. ‘Bodies’ is a British crime show with a unique twist. Four detectives in four different years are confronted with an investigation of the same murder. And on goes a journey through time and mystery and it slowly unfolds into this suspenseful case. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Since my teenage years, I’ve been at odds with the month November. I even titled one of the first songs we wrote with my hardcore band at the time ‘At War With November.’ It’s this non-month between the end of the late summer and before the beginning of the holiday season, it gets dark and cold, and it marks the beginning of a long winter. Emotionally, November has gained in significance over the years. November 1st is my dad’s birthday and he passed in 2018. And November 11th is the anniversary of my mom’s passing–she passed in 2013. This November feels even stranger than previously. Having my own little family now makes me miss my parents even more this season. They’re on my mind a lot, and my body feels it too.
What else?! 💯
I forgot where I came across this photo series by Gail Albert Halaban and fact is, I am in love with this series called ‘Paris Views’. Such a candid peek into the lives of Parisians. It’s so peaceful and appreciative of the beauty of the city and its inhabitants. Click.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

Happy to hear you are enjoying these days with family! Big fan of your playlists, David.. I always add a bunch of the tracks to my likes. I think you probably introduced me to Bear's Den in one of the earliest Friday Fives and have been a fan ever since. In October I also really enjoyed your picks from Blaudzun, The Cavers and Hearts Hearts. Thanks!
