Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from Vienna where I am back after three days with clients in Berlin. This was my first trip away after the arrival of the baby. It was a strange feeling to leave and be away, and a total joy to arrive back at home.
What I’m reading 📖
This week I facilitated a session to define the company values with a company and at different points in the day we discussed the values of honesty and transparency and that both of these values sit on a spectrum between basic and radical. This discussion reminded me of A.J. Jacobs who in 2007 experimented with radical honesty, at the time a movement started (and book written) by Brad Blanton. The article written for Esquire about the experiment is amusing and highlights the importance of being clear how we define a certain value in the given context and the range of acceptable behaviours and actions expected to emerge from this value. Read it here.
What I’m listening to 🎧
While traveling this week I re-listened to the entire discography by The Killers. It’s a band that has been a loyal companion since smash hit debut ‘Hot Fuss’. There are songs I love on every of their album and this time around, I went back and re-listened to ‘Imploding The Mirage’. My Own Soul’s Warning and Blowback are such strong opening tracks. And while I have never seen them play live, here is a bonus link to their festival show last year at Southside Festival.
What I’m watching 📺
At dinner with Matze this week, he recommend that I watch ‘Being Jan Ullrich’, the documentary series about one of the most talented competitive road cyclists ever. Tour de France and cycling have never been a sport I follow closely but when Matze recommends something, I listen. It’s cured up for this weekend and I look forward to watching it. Here is the series (in German).
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“Does money buy happiness? I think that answer is pretty firmly no. Can money buy contentment? I think that’s a pretty firm yes. And that’s great. Contentment is a great trait that makes your life better, but it’s very different from happiness.”
— Morgan Housel
What else?! 💯
The Algorithm has figured me out fast: music and babies. That’s my rabbit hole these days. Giam is a music duo from Switzerland who create duet/remixes from cute/funny kids singing songs. Can’t stop watching. Here’s a good start.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
