Happy Friday! ☀️
The final admin tasks are completed, the first meetings and sessions are scheduled for the new year, and my work email inbox is reset to zero. I’m shifting my attention away from this device to the presents that I will wrap and enjoying the rest of this Friday with my wife and daughter.
What I’m reading 📖
When looking for stuff to read like essays or articles, I often turn to Pocket, a community of readers on the internet. What helps me is to start with the curated lists of most-read articles and the team at Pocket published the list of most-read articles of the year 2023 and I’ve already opened some tabs with articles to catch up on. Get the full list.
What I’m listening to 🎧
The Watch is my main go-to podcast for all things tv series. Andy and Chris have such a thoughtful and engaging way to talk about the ecosystem of television–from dissecting and discussing episodes to analysing the state and trends in the industry, they both are cheerleaders for the medium. Here is the episode in which they share their top 10 shows of 2023.
What I’m watching 📺
Daisy Jones & The Six, the final season of Succession and the second season of The Bear were my favorite shows this year. The Bear, in particular, surprised me in the way they continued the story set in season 2. The choice of dedicating an episode to key characters was a good one and the episode ‘Forks’ is beautiful storytelling. I re-watched the episode and it’s so heart-warming when you consider Richie as the character and the ark of his story. Here is a scene from the episode.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
This Christmas will be the second Christmas that I don’t spend back in Belgium with my family. The first time I toured Denmark and Sweden in 1999 with a band during the holidays and this time, I will be spending Christmas with my own family in Vienna, where I live now. I do look forward for this new chapter–to celebrate my first Christmas with my wife and daughter–and at the same time will miss the tradition of gathering with the whole family in my home town.
What else?! 💯
Nothing much else other than wishing you all and your loved ones some quality time over the holidays. Time to be present, time to rest & reflect, and time not governed by a calendar.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
