Happy Friday! ☀️
Hello from the space in-between. In-between Cologne and Berlin where I spent the work week and home, where I’m eager to see my family. It was a special work week for me for the nature of the settings. Setting 1 was a management team of a family business that consists of father, mother, and the two sons (which adds a different level of team dynamics) and Setting 2 was to moderate a group discussion with founders about the topic of board relations. I learned a ton in both settings, which feels rewarding.
What I’m reading 📖
Lately I don’t get to read long reads often but on a train ride this week I found this The New Yorker article that’s been sitting in my Instapaper saves for a long time. It’s a fascinating story of Vjeran Tomic, son of Bosnian immigrants to Paris who grew up in Mostar before returning to the French capital to pull off what The New Yorker calls ‘his generation’s biggest heist. I love a good heist story and this one sure is. Read the full piece here.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Claudio Donzelli usually makes up a third of the band Mighty Oaks and pursues solo projects in his spare time. This project is him and a piano and the result are hauntingly beautiful instrumental pieces that remind me of Max Richter. Today, Claudia releases a new single called ‘When Galaxies Collide’ and this could easily be from a movie soundtrack.
What I’m watching 📺
Late to the hype and nonetheless concur with it. I watched Oppenheimer this week and I found it excellent from start to finish. I learned about aspects of the story I unknown to me, was fascinated by the cinematography and acting performance, and didn’t mind the three hours. I suspect that you all have already seen it and if, like me, you haven’t or a late to the game, I can recommend. Here’s the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“We systematically overestimate the value of access to information and underestimate the value of access to each other.” — Clay Shirky
What else?! 💯
Last weekend I spend a few hours discovering Vienna and focused on the local independent record stores to stock up on vinyl. I remember how much I loved losing the sense of time while flipping through the records, it was nice to chat with the owners and talk music, and it felt even better dropping the needle on new music after returning home.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
