Happy Friday! ☀️
I had a slow week in my home office in Vienna this week and a welcoming light calendar for a change. How was your week?
What I’m reading 📖
A few years back my dear colleague Hugo introduced me to the idea of a portfolio life as an alternative to thinking of a work/life balance which too me is too narrow and binary. I loved the idea of thinking of my life of a portfolio that includes different elements that all sit there like a honeycomb. Some elements are temporary, others permanent, some are big, others are small, some are active, some aren’t, some revolve around work, others are play, etc. It helps me not choose for one against the other and rather dial my attention and time up or down depending on my energy and time of the year without feeling like I have to discard either element. My internet pal and fellow coach Steve Schlafman this week wrote about something similar in that he transitioned from defining goals to a values-guided life. Love it.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Robin Gosens is a German professional football player currently playing for Union Berlin and the German National team. I’ve always admired him on the few occasions I saw him interviewed by the football media. It was a nice surprise to see him as a guest on Matze’s podcast and this conversation made me respect him as a person even more. The clarity about who he is (at the age of 30), the way he approaches his career as a professional athlete at the top level, and his interest in psychology and mental strength made me admire him even more.
What I’m watching 📺
This week I came across an Irish series called ‘Kin’, a crime drama series set in Dublin and that revolves around a fictional family embroiled in a gangland war between two rival factions. It stars Aidan Gillen (known from Game of Thrones) and Ciarán Hinds (Harry Potter) as the two heads of the gangs and I found season one compelling for its plot and performance and I always have a sweet spot for Irish accents. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
In the post above, Steve shares a link with exercises to discover your values. Some of them I know, others are new to me. If you’re curious, here they are.
What else?! 💯
