Happy Friday! ☀️
Just got back to Vienna after a full and intensive week in Berlin. A mix of client workshops, coaching sessions, capped off by our regular ForChiefs Day that I always appreciate for the deep connection, the shared learning experiences, and the meaningful conversations I get to have with my colleagues that I don’t see often enough.
What I’m reading 📖
There are two terms in the tv industry that I see used more and more. The first is “Prestige TV” also know as the second or third golden age of television, representing the kind of shows that are internationally and critically acclaimed, attract a star cast, the set pieces, and cinematography. The second I only found out about this week and it’s “Prestige Dad TV”.
Prestige Dad TV has all the classic signifiers of prestige TV, but is laser-focused on topics that dads of a certain age traditionally can’t get enough of. Espionage. Action. History
And by reading this article by GQ, Apple seems to have cornered the market for prestige dad tv. Shows like Masters of Air, Slow Horses, Manhunt (more on that below) and Hijack fall into this category. And since I like prestige tv and just became a dad, I guess these shows are for me. Read more.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Next to the obligatory classics by The Beatles, some of my favorite songs by the band are the ones that never get played at parties. One of those surfaced in my Shazam playlist this week and I love it for its atypical sound.
What I’m watching 📺
Manhunt–that I now learned is a prestige dad tv show–is a new show on Apple in the detective genre about the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and the resulting manhunt for the perpetrator John Wilkes Booth. Fans of The Crown and Outlander will recognize Tobias Menzies as the Secretary of War in charge for catching Booth. And as we are used to Apple shows, it’s incredibly well done. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
In workshops with leadership teams and in individual coaching sessions, the answer to many challenges result to the need for clearer communication. And while it often feels counter-intuitive (and perhaps unnecessary at first), leaders often underestimate the need for repetition. In one of our workshops this week, the CEO realized that a large part of their role was to be the Chief Repetition Officer. I liked that.
What else?! 💯
After contemplating it for two years, I finally made the jump and got an Ooni pizza oven. Just in time for spring and summer, my vision was to make the oven the central place during lazy weekend afternoon to make home-made pizza pies for family and friends. Check it out.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
