Friday's Five ✋ #416
Drifting
Happy Friday! ☀️
This week I spent most of my days in Vienna, shifting between the office, the gym, and home. It was nice to be around a lot and only stepped away for a night and a day to Cologne to continue the work with a new client near Koblenz.
What I’m reading 📖
After finishing Norman Ohler’s Blitzed, I started reading a second of his books called The Bohemians. The book recounts the lives of Harro and Libertas Schulze-Boysen, an idealistic young couple who met during the early years after Hitler took power and led a movement of resistance. It’s part love story, part resistance story and kept me up until 1m last night. Reading this book and listening to an interview with historian Götz Aly, I am curious to read more about the early years of the regime.
What I’m listening to 🎧
L’aupaire is back with a new album and it’s been on heavy rotation at our house. From start to finish, it’s a lovely album full of dreamy and catchy songs. Bonus points for the pedal steel in Wanne Be With You. A pedal stell will always get me.
What I’m watching 📺
This week I spent most of my evenings catching up on political podcasts so I didn’t watch anything new. But my trusted tv podcasts keep speaking about the new Ethan Hawke series The Lowdown so I watched the trailer and will check it out.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
Triggers are the word du jour, it seems. From my vantage point, it looks like there is a movement towards a desire (or expectation?) to prevent triggers, which I believe is impossible and not helpful. Rather, I see the benefit in learning how to self-regulate when triggers occur. A few years ago, I wanted to test myself and learn how to become more conscious about my triggers and how I can work with or through them. I selected a few podcast episodes with hosts, guests, or topics that I knew where diametrically opposed to my views and values (or knowledge). And it was fascinating to observe myself and my inner reactions. I keep doing this and notice how I am learning to remain composed when confronted with different view points of my own. It feels like growing.
What else?! 💯
Two weeks ago, my wife and I, together with our daughter, celebrated our second wedding anniversary. We both realized that marriage had never been top on our minds in life but how much we both appreciate making the step. It was a wonderful realization.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
