Hello from Amsterdam. I arrived last night to spend the day with my colleagues at ForChiefs to kick off the new year. We’ve in a space overlooking the old docks that got turned new neighbourhoods. It’s my second time in this area and again, I feel how special it is to live by the water. Summers here must be incredible.
What I’m reading 📖
Further into my newfound appreciation for audiobooks, this week I listened to A Naked Singularity by Sergio de la Pava. Wow. What an amazing book, story, and listening experience. I sped it up by 1.3x and it made the experience even more thrilling. It’s cerebral, methodical, and explores systems of various kinds. The dialogues are so cinematic that often I wished I could watch this as a movie–turns out, they made a movie. The book follows Casi, an ambitious New York public lawyer who gets drawn into a dangerous heist. More about the book.
What I’m listening to 🎧
This week I spent a few days and nights working on a project that required some deep focus. I found this album by way of my Discover Weekly playlist and it hit the mark perfectly for the kind of work I was immersed in. Martin Kohlstedt is a composer and Nacht is his album from 2014. I will dive into his other work this week.
What I’m watching 📺
Laura Dern and Will Arnett in a movie together sounded like something I wanted to check out. And I am glad I did. A bittersweet comedy.
As their marriage quietly unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess (Laura Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family--forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.
