Friday's Five ✋ #453
They forget everything but the grudges
Happy Friday! ☀️
Another coucou from the French countryside. Second week here coming to a close and it was a hot one. Staying cool thanks to the pool, handmade ice cream, and the occasional garden hose.
What I’m reading 📖
After finishing the Cartel trilogy, this week it was the Danny Ryan trilogy: City on Fire, City of Dreams, and City in Ruins. Winslow’s writing is addictive: the characters, the dialogues, the propulsive plot. Series-like in the best sense. The perfect companion for long workout walks and late nights when the family was asleep. More about the trilogy.
What I’m listening to 🎧
Phoebe Bridgers released a new song this week. Lost Boys makes me imagine riding a bike in the evening summer sun with it on repeat.
What I’m watching 📺
Today is the day. The new season of The Bear is out, one of my favourite shows of the past few years. Season 4 ended on a cliffhanger and the wait has been long. Not watching the trailer, going in unbiased. You can watch it here if you want the preview. Watch the trailer.
What I’m thinking about 🧠
“Danny’s like his old man,” Pasco says. “Stubborn. You heard about Irish Alzheimer’s? They forget everything but the grudges.” – Don Winslow in City on Fire.
What else?! 💯
Halfway through the year, The AV Club shared their best TV shows of 2026 so far. Some already watched, others to catch up on. If you're looking for your next binge, this list might be of help.
Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!
