Hello from the highway to Salzburg. This weekend marks the final module of the coaching course I’ve been doing for the past year and a half. The dedicated spaces for learning and reflection have been genuinely valuable. The weekends away from family, less so. On Sunday, picking up my wife and daughter at Salzburg station before heading to Bad Gastein for a week with friends.
What I’m reading 📖
Few books get a second read from me. Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale is one of them. First read it in 2020 and loved it then. War stories tend to centre men and their sacrifices. The Nightingale shifts that focus entirely to women and children in Nazi-occupied rural France, and what they had to carry. Historical fiction that felt completely real the first time. Still does. What I’m listening to 🎧
Houndmouth's Matt Myers with a solo album that is singer-songwriter music as it should be. Stripped back, emotionally direct, and a welcome return after a period of creative stagnation following some significant life changes.
What I’m watching 📺
Anya Taylor-Joy and Timothy Olyphant (best last name in the business) in a new Apple series about a heist gone wrong and the cat and mouse hunt that follows. The trailer looks promising. Watch it.

What else?! 💯
Drove into the city for a dinner a few weeks ago and pulled into a parking garage near the restaurant. No barriers, no ticket machine, no app. An attendant directed me to a spot. Walking down, I peeked into the wood-paneled office and told the woman inside that I loved her garage. She told me the story: her grandfather-in-law opened it in 1933 as a showroom and mechanic shop for the now-defunct Austrian car brand Steyr. When the Nazis requisitioned the cars, he had an idea: turn the showroom into a parking garage. Vienna's first. Still family-run. Still no ticket machine. Check out the Apollo Garage.
